2019 Week 1

2018 never really got off the ground for many reasons. In January my appendix was still bothering me and so was my hamstring. I started off what I had hoped to be a good year with a new coach but that too didn't go as planned. I always felt like an afterthought. The training plan that was supposed to start in January never got to me until February. Emails going unanswered, never really felt like I was part of the organization. So by spring I had lost interest, and as I had never really committed to any races this year I just pulled the plug. In June my mothers health took a negative turn and by then everything came to a standstill.

But now it is August. I have decided that 2019 will be a much better year and if it is to be then I need to make it happen. So I plugged in the training plan from 2018 and am freelancing a bit with a half marathon running plan and am getting started. The first week went really well for one reason, and that was I got in open water. Somewhere along the line I have developed an aversion to the open water, open water panic is the technical term I guess, so I decided to address it head on. I went to Lake Michigan and jumped in and swam. The distance is not what is important, what is important is that I am in water that I am not comfortable in and I am swimming. I have decided to spend more time in the open water now while I can and sacrifice some bike time to make it happen. This week went well and I will be in the lake as much as I can until it freezes over.

I have committed to the Winter Run Series with my buddies Steve and Joe and I am looking very seriously at the Wisconsin Tri Series for 2019.

This weeks recap:
Swim: 1972 Yard
Run: 6.2 miles
Bike 21.12 miles.
